Call for Special Session Proposals

The ICIC 2012 Program Committee is inviting proposals for special sessions to be held during the conference (http://www.ic-ic.org/2012/index.htm), taking place on July 25-29, 2012, in Huangshan, China.

Each special session proposal should be well motivated and should consist of 5 to 8 papers. Each paper must have the title, authors with e-mails/web sites, and as detailed an abstract as possible. The special session organizer(s) contact information should also be included. All special session organizers must obtain firm commitments from their special session presenters and authors to submit papers in a timely fashion (if the special session is accepted) and, particularly, present them at the ICIC 2012. Each special session organizer will be session chair for their own special sessions at ICIC 2012 accordingly. All planned papers for special sessions will undergo the same review process as the ones in regular sessions. All accepted papers for special sessions will also be published by Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Sciences (LNCS)/ Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI)/ Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics (LNBI)/ Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS).

Advances in Information Security 2012 is a special track within Eighth International Conference on Intelligent Computing (ICIC 2012) which will be held from July 25 -29, 2012 in Huangshan, China. It  aims at attracting the original, high quality, unpublished research outcomes in the field of information security. Submitted papers must not substantially overlap with papers that have been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference with proceedings. The advanced developments in Biotechnology provide a wealth of data on genomes, proteomes, metabolomes and transcriptomes. This has been evidenced with the growth of data in gene expression profiles, amino acid sequences, protein three-dimensional structures and protein-protein interaction networks. The availability of data pave way to several analyses in biological and medical research, such as high-throughput protein structure prediction, genome-wide protein-protein interaction prediction, binding sites and interface structures in protein complexes, identification of post-transcription modification sites, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) prediction, gene expression profile data analysis and so on. The comprehensive analysis, development of efficient algorithms, software and tools for data integration and visualization are necessary in these cutting-edge research fields. 

This special session provides a forum for researchers to present and discuss their latest research results to timely identify and address related problems and challenges. We invite the submission of high-quality, original and unpublished papers in this area. Computational methods for protein and gene bioinformatics includes but are not limited to:

  • Protein structure analysis, folding and stability
  • Secondary and tertiary structure prediction of globular and membrane proteins
  • Analysis and prediction of protein-protein, protein-nucleic acid and protein-ligand interactions including contact sites, hotspots and interface
  • Modeling and Analysis on protein interaction network,
  • Gene regulatory network modeling and timing the mitotic cell cycle
  • Disease related single nucleotide polymorphism identification
  • Disease related cell signaling pathway identification
  • Gene expression profile data analysis

All accepted papers will be published in Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics and few high quality papers will be invited for publication in a special issue of BMC Bioinformatics.

Optimization is an important tool applied to different scenarios where some emergent and complex problems arise from its application. Those problems represent a challenge for classical optimization algorithms, so the use of hybrid intelligent methods is an interesting field to be covered. Among those problems we have combinatorial, uncertainty-based, nonlinear, large scale and related problems. In this way, the design and application of new intelligent optimization algorithms represents a wide topic of intelligent computing.

The ICIC 2012 Special session on Hybrid Optimization aims to generate a space for discussing about new theories, developments and challenges of hybrid optimization through the submission of high-quality, original and unpublished papers in this area. Expected contributions to this session are, but not limited to:

  • Fuzzy Optimization using Type-2, intuitionistic and interval-valued fuzzy sets.

This special issue focuses on the implementation of soft-computing and bio-inspired techniques in real world applications with particular interests on decision support systems, modelling and feature extraction. To survive, organisms try to use strategies to react robustly in the presence of noise,  incomplete input information, and environmental changes. In an attempt to capture these advantages in computational systems, computer science and artificial intelligence have pursued several biological paradigms, such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, evolutionary computation, artificial immune systems and ant colonies. In particolar, the theme of this special issue is to present the state of art developments in recent research focusing on neural networks for pattern recognition, data mining, inference systems and intelligent clustering and then compare these ANN strategies to other soft-computing and bio-inspired techniques.

6.  Special Session on Intelligent Computing Oriented to Performance Analysis and Optimization

Modern processor architectures have become so complex that the application programmer must have knowledge of both the architecture and the compiler in order to produce efficient code.

Tuning applications to improve performance is an important but tedious and time-consuming task. It may have to be repeated for each new application and platform. As a result code performance is becoming more and more complex to guarantee and difficult to assess without extensive tuning and experiments.

All efforts are concentrated on the performance analysis system, which is the ability to encode general expertise and case-specific methods that allows development tools and techniques to direct analysis strategies to problem solving needs.

Introducing artificial intelligent can be interesting and can help expert and non-expert users to resolve the performance problems.

The goal of this session is to bring together researchers and developers of performance analysis and optimization to present and discuss the latest techniques and ideas.
